Yesus dan Maria Dilecehkan, Umat Kristen Demo

Baru-baru ini terjadi peristiwa menarik. Ratusan umat Kristen Palestina dan Lebanon menggelar demonstrasi mengecam acara talkshow sebuah stasiun televisi Israel yang menghina Yesus (Isa A.S) dan Mariam ibundanya. Hal ini cukup menarik karena kemudian diikuti oleh protes keras dari Gereja Kristen Katholik Vatican yang berbuntut pada penghentian siaran tersebut. Sri Paus sendiri sebenarnya telah menjadwalkan diri akan berkunjung ke Israel bulan Mei mendatang.

Padahal Vatican dan umat Kristen seluruh dunia diam seribu bahasa saat Gereja Suci Nativity (tempat kelahiran Yesus di Jerussalem) dibom Israel beberapa tahun yang lalu. Yang juga menarik adalah protes keras Vatikan baru dilaksanakan setelah ribuan umat Islam Lebanon di bawah komando Hizbollah mengecam acara tersebut. Protes umat Kristen Arab dan Hizbollah kemudian memicu aksi-aksi serupa yang dilakukan oleh umat Kristen Eropa.

Lior Shlein, pembawa acara talkshow yang menghina Yesus dan Maria mengetakan bahwa Maria bukanlah seorang perawan saat mengandung Yesus. Ia juga menolak cerita tentang Yesus yang dapat berjalan di atas air. Secara terus terang ia mengaku menyatakan hal itu sebagai "balasan" atas dicabutnya hukuman oleh Gereja Vatican terhadap seorang pendeta yang secara terbuka menolak mitos holocoust.

Protestors Urge Peres to Apologize for TV Show’s Abuse of Jesus

21/02/2009 Dozens of Christians held a demonstration Saturday near Kfar Yasif in the Galilee, to protest a late-night talk show host's comments about their religion, with some demanding an official apology from Israeli President Shimon Peres.

Lior Shlein was responding to the reinstatement of Bishop Richard Williamson by the Vatican despite his denial of the full extent of the Holocaust. In the program, Shlein sarcastically denied Christian traditions, saying that Mary (pbuh) was no virgin and that Jesus (Prophet Issa pbuh) did not walk on water. The talk- show host said he was doing so as a "lesson" to Christians who deny the Holocaust.

The Vatican was outraged and in a statement, it said that Israeli authorities had promised to stop any such shows. The Vatican nuncio in Israel contacted the government after protests from the country's Catholic community about the show on private TV channel 10, and Shlein later issued a formal apology.

However, Christian protestors, residents of the Galilee towns of Judeide, Mayilia, Pasuta, and Kfar Yasif gathered on Saturday to show their objection to the Shlein's remarks. Some held up signs calling the host "scum" and Channel 10 – on which his program airs – "devils".

Protesters said, “We call on Channel 10 not to make do with the hesitant and insincere apology offered by Shlein, apparently at the orders of the producers, and to take the show off the air immediately.”

Protestors also called on Shimon Peres to issue a public apology to the Christian faith. The Israeli president should renounce Shlein's comments and make clear that his views do not represent Israel, they said.

"If an apology is not forthcoming we will ask the Pope, through leaders of the (Christian) community, to reconsider his visit to Israel in May," one protestor said.
